Littoridinops monroensis (Frauenfeld, 1863) Cockscomb Hydrobe
Distribution: Florida, Texas. Size: 3 to 5 mm
Description: Color opaque white; shape elongate-conic and variable, hard to delineate protoconch from teleoconch; sculpture typically with 6 rounded smooth whorls, with body whorl being somewhat globose; suture deep and convex; body whorl separated from aperture; aperture broadly ovate, outer lip thin; posterior region of aperture slightly channeled; anterior area of aperture rounded. Habitat: Brackish to fresh water from surface to a depth of 4 m (12 ft); on mud bottoms; at low areas of coastal bayous.
Remarks: Lives in almost fresh to fresh water. Common along Texas coast in beach drift. Harry (1968) first reported it in Texas, from Galveston, as Lyrodes. See Ode (1987b).
