Shell small, ovate, rather thin, somewhat depressed; anteriorly obtusely pointed; apex anterior extending beyond the margin and more or less corroded; colour reticulated brown and white showing much variation. From apex to posterior extremity convex. Interior blackish chestnut or dark brown with a lighter colour bordering the spatula and whitish markings at the margin. Size: 0,75 inch.

A curiously shaped limpet easily recognized by its flat and obtusely pointed form. The apex extends beyond the anterior margin and this is a consistent and characteristic feature. Previously called Acmaea cantharus (Reeve, 1855), a New Zealand shell. Recorded also from Tasmania.

Common in western Victoria and as far as east as Phillip Island, located on vertical rock faces in the upper littoral zone.
