Shell acute, fusiform, whitish with a brown periostracum; nucleus small, the apex minutely globular and with the succeeding inflated whorl, smooth: subsequent whorls eight, regularly increasing in diameter; suture closely appressed, obscure, bordered in front by two undulated cords, the ulterior cord larger; axial sculpture of (on the last whorl 18) equal narrow nodulous ribs with subequal interspaces, the ribs extending well over the base from the anterior margin of the anal fasciole, where they form a marked shoulder; the incremental lines are hardly noticeable except on the fasciole; spiral sculpture of (on the spire three) strong cords, the posterior slightly larger, which become swollen and nodulous where they intersect the summit of the ribs; on the last whorl there are 7 of these cords and 10 minor threads in front of the base and on the canal; in the interspaces between the major cords there are from one to three fine threads which do not become nodulous; anal fasciole narrow, concave, somewhat removed from the suture, the sulcus shallow; in the type-specimen the outer lip is thin and sharp, the inner lip erased, but if the specimen is immature the outer lip would probably be thickened with a subsutural callus in the adult; pillar straight, attenuated in front, white; canal distinct, not recurved. Height of shell. 16.5 mm.; diameter, 8,5 mm.
Range.—Station 2828, in 10 fathoms, off La Paz. Lower California.

As Turrigemma torquifer Berry, 1958
Shell high spindle-shaped; spire acute, its larval portion com¬posed of about 3 1/4 smooth cylindro-conic whorls, the last subangulate; later whorls strongly angulate on the shoulder, above which is the high, wide, concave, spirally striate anal fasciole, separated from the suture by a low appressed subtuberculate thread; whorls below shoulder ornamented by numerous protractively slanting axial riblets which increase to about 18 on the body-whorl and are rendered trimly nodose by their intersection with the spiral cords; there are about 20 of the latter on the body-whorl (plus an occasional intercalary), three of which ascend the spire, the two uppermost the strongest. Aperture narrow, elongate, terminating above in a conspicuous, forward-protruding, thick-rimmed, gutterlike spur, and below in the short, open, moderately) upturned canal; outer lip strong, weakly crenulate, arcuately produced below the large, rather angular anal sulcus which cuts in just above the shoulder angle, subtending the spout previously noticed; parietal callus sharply bounded, narrow; columella nearly straight. Color in general a bright even Ochraceous-Tawny, the nodules a conspicuous white; interior brilliantly porcellaneous white to grayish. Alt. of holotype 39.2, max. diam. 12.0, alt. aperture 18.6 mm.
Type Locality: Off Isla Angel de la Guarda, Baja California; taken by an unknown collector in about 400 ft. of water.
Commentary: This unusually beautiful turrid is remarkable for its clean-cut sculpture and outline, the strange spout-like elaboration of the posterior apertural callus, the wide and steep anal fasciole, and the beautiful coloring. Its systematic position is probably in the vicinity of Crassispira. The beaded band ascending the spire has inspired both the specific and generic names.
