Shell small, somewhat obliquely subcircular, plumpish for a Leptopecten; hinge-line long, slightly surpassing the disk posteriorly; each valve with 15 to 18 strong simple ribs about equal to their intervals; right valve moderately convex, deepest at or slightly above the middle; anterior auricle sharply bounded, its marginal rib strong, with 3 or 4 somewhat less strong rib-lets below it, all cristately transversely laminated; free part of ctenolium with 4 to 6 small hook-like denticles; posterior auricle poorly defined, its marginal rib moderately strong, with 2 or 3 weak radii and sometimes a few dim intercalaries. Left valve strongly convex, with strong, flatly rounded ribs bordering smooth intervals; both auricles similar to the right anterior auricle, except that the larger anterior ear may carry more and stronger radii. Color of left valve light gray or buff, spotted or splashed with white and brown; right valve regularly paler, with fewer or no markings. Long, of holotype 20.2, alt. 19.6, max. diam. 8.2 mm.
Type-Locality: 35-40 fms., region of La Ribera, Baja California Sur; Antonio Luna, July 1968.
Comparisons: This little scallop is close to the Californian A.(L.) latiauritus (Conrad) and may be essentially a southern race of that, differing chiefly in its smaller size, plumper and more rounded form, smooth intervals between the radii of the disk, and lighter coloring.
