As L. dianae:
The species is characterized by 1) ovate to elongate-ovate, somewhat thick shell attaining 37 mm in height, 2) protoconch umboniform of 2 whorls, rather small, obliquely immersed in the first teleoconch whorl, 3) teleoconch whorls convex, with exceedingly narrow but distinct subsutural shelf, 4) body whorl broadly oval, about 80% of total height, gradually tapering at the base, umbilicus a rather narrow chink, 5) aperture high, nearly D-shaped, outer lip regularly arched, parietal lip forming a great angle with the columella, which is straight, slightly oblique and bears an obsolete fold on its upper part, 6) sculpture of flat, rather even spiral bands separated by narrow grooves; the body whorl of the largest specimen (3.6 mm in height) bears 19 spirals, 12 of them basal; fine, uneven axial lines are noted throughout. Leucotina niphonensis Adams, 1860 and Leucotina gigantea (Dunker, 1877) are junior synonyms.
DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. Leucotina dianae is so far known from Japanese waters. It is reported to live on muddy sand, in the 10-50 m depth range (HORI & TSUCHIDA, 1995). Leucotina species likely are ectoparasites on large bivalves. FOSSIL RECORDS. Pliocene of Taiwan and Japan; Pleistocene of Japan; Holocene of Thailand.
