Shell minute, semitransparent and glossy, with low spire, swollen whorls, deep sutures, its surface decorated with many fine prosocline costae and as many equally fine spiral ridges suggesting, at first sight, spiral rows of tubercles. Axis of aperture oblique. Cephalic tentacles bifid; eyes absent; foot without operculum. There are 2.5 whorls, the last much the biggest. Costae and spiral ridges cross to produce a series of fine pits. The outer lip shows an anal sinus and a peripheral bulge. The protoconch is smooth. Up to 0.8mm high, 1.0mm broad; last whorl occupies 90% of shell height, aperture 70%.
The head is triangular in cross section with a mid-dorsal crest and a ventro¬lateral tentacle on each side in addition to the main cephalic ones. The mantle skirt has four marginal tentacles, one on the left, one median, two on the right. A ctenidium is missing. Males have a penis on the right. The sole of the foot is triangular, broad anteriorly, thin and delicate throughout. Body white.
T. exquisita lives on fine silty bottoms and has been found from the Medi¬terranean to Scandinavia. It has been recorded in the British Isles off the south coast of Ireland, in the Irish Sea, and off west Scotland. It may well be more widespread and been overlooked because of its size.
