Možné záměny

Hexaplex pecchiolianus is confused with H. kuesterianus (Tapparone Canefri, 1875) in some
private collections, but H. kuesterianus always has short, open spines on the siphonal canal whereas H. pecchiolianus does not. Turkish specimens of H., pecchiolianus were commented on and illustrated by Enzenross & Niedcrhofer (1990), Engl (1995) and Brunetti et al (1998). A fossil specimen was illustrated by Inzani & Bertarelli (1985: 27, pl. 3, Figs 5-6). The question whether it deserves specific rank or whether it is only a form of H. trunculus is still open. There is another example of such a form with abapically bent spines in Hexaplex: H. depressospinosus (Dunker, 1869) which is a form of H. cichoreum (Gmelin, 1791). But in this particular case the form depressospinosus is not confined to a restricted area.
At present, I am not aware of that form in other localities in the Mediterranean. H. pecchiolianus differs from H. trunculus in having a broad, convex shoulder, abapically bent shoulder spines on all whorls, stronger, higher axial varices, broader columellar lip, and broader siphonal canal with more apparent previous canals. Most of the specimens also are uniformly whitish, compared to the banded H. trunculus.
