Shell solid, fusiform, slim, smooth, growth striae on the last whorls only, while the first teleconch whorls have clear axial ribs nodulous crossed by one close spiral streakiness. Very characteristic suture, incised and undulated, in the lower zone there is a clear concavity making one shoulder. Siphonal canal short, open, bent on the left and backward. Columellar callum clear. Mouth oval in form, with numerous small little teeth stretched, a little bit backward on the external lip which is sharp. Colour pattern changeable: on a white greyish ground there are always present either stains or irregular bands, usually either brown or greenish in colour. Inside of the mouth, white bordered, dark brown in colour. Operculum corneous, often light brown. Protoconch made by about two whorls smooth and bright, dark brown in colour. There are described many varieties among which: crassa. elongata, polita, sordida, Monterosato's (1884), and: bellardii, caprica, crassilabra de Gregorio s (1885). The variety syracusana Kobelt, 1887, pointed out in Sicily (Italy), is a dwarf form reaching 25-30 mm in height only and it is probably attributable to Euthria gracilis Locard's, 1891 that CLEMAM put in synonymia with E. cornea. This species is a voracious carnivorous, mainly it feeds on bivalves piercing the shell by its radula. The animal is yellow orange in colour pattern. The adult specimens average measures are around 50 mm in height, but exceptionally there were collected specimens of 80 mm too. Habitat: it lives in the littoral and infralittoral zones, on rocky bottoms, either under stones or into sheltered gorges. Distribution: common enough all over the Mediterranean.
