Shell more stretched in form than its similar ones. Whorls convex with one slight concavity below the suture. Last whorl large, apex sharp, suture superficial. Aperture semicircular, more roundish in the lower part. Columella straight with an extended callosity in the upper zone covering a part of the deep umbilicus which is grooved internally. Base convex, external lip simple. On a ground greyish in colour, there are either lines or axial streaks undulated, brown in colour. Two lighter spiral streaks are placed at the base and in the upper part of the last whorl. Inside of umbilicus and columellar callum are often dark brown. As far as juvenile specimens are concerned, the extended columellar collum and the little axial lines, brown in colour, can be already noted.. Operculum corneous. It is different from E. guillemini since it is less solid, less globose, since it has a depression near the suture, since its umbilicus is less open and due to a different chromatic dress. The adult specimens average measures are around 15 mm in height.

It can be found in a large part of the Mediterranean, but never common. It seems it is missing in the Aegean Sea. Mainly it lives on muddy and sandy bottoms in the infra and circalittoral zones.
