Distribution: Texas, Florida to Brazil; Bermuda. Size: 8 to 10 mm.
Description: Color uniform dull white to tannish; shape broadly conic; sculpture of many axial, bladelike costae that do not connect with subsequent whorls; spiral sculpture of small threads between costae and even finer, microscopic axial threads intersecting the spiral threads within the inner spaces; nuclear whorls smooth; aperture subcircular; parietal shield over umbilical area; costae on body whorl pass under parietal shield and into umbilicus.
Habitat: Found from shoreline to a depth of about 244 m (800 ft).
Remarks: Rare species. Similar to E. novangliae, but lacks the hooklike structures that occur in the shoulder region. See Clench and Turner (1952).

A half inch long shell found intertidally in the north end of its range, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and offshore at depths of up to 20 fathoms off North Carolina, the south end of its range. Sculpture consists of 8-10 flat cord-like costae on the body whorl which are non-continuous. Spiral sculpture consists of about 20 fairly strong flattened ridges. Color is white to cream. Angle to spire is 20 to 23 degrees. No basal ridge. The outer lip is thickened. Similar to B. greenlandica, it lacks the basal ridge found on that species. Not common in its range.
