Calliostoma fascinans Schwengel and McGinty, 1942 Enchanting Topsnail.
Distribution: Florida, Texas to Mexico. Size: 12 mm.
Description: Color ivory-white with reddish-brown mottlings; shape trochoid, moderately strong, higher than wide; sculpture of coarsely beaded cords with flat-sided, keeled whorls, peripheral cord on each whorl extended and large; axial cords give the shell a reticulate appearance; nuclear whorl smooth; shell with 7 to 8 beaded cords on flattened base; aperture subquadrate; columella angled and thickened; outer lip crenulate, somewhat thin; operculum round, multispiral, and corneous. Habitat: In mud-type habitats. In Texas usually located at depths of approximately 18 to 78 m (60 to 258 ft).
Remarks: C. fascinans is closely related to C. roseolum; however, C. fascinans has coarser sculpture and sharply angled whorls. See Clench and Turner (1960); Ode (1972b); Quinn (1992).
