Description

The shell is large for the genus (maximum length 90 mm) and fusiform. The spire is high, consisting of seven or eight convex to weakly shouldered postnuclear whorls and a protoconch of undetermined nature. The suture is moderately impressed. The body whorl is large and fusoid. The aperture is large and ovate, with a deep, looped anal sulcus, this strengthened by a weak parietal ridge. The outer apertural lip is somewhat erect and marginally crenulate, the crenulations extending very briefly into the aperture as ephemeral lirae; where the outer lip abuts the anal sulcus, two or three strong denticles are developed. The columellar lip is adherent above, spreading into a thin parietal callus; below, the lip is detached and somewhat erect. The siphonal canal is narrow and moderately long, straight, and minutely open to the right.
The body whorl bears three low varices. Additional axial sculpture consists of two or three slender ridges, these most prominent at the shoulder margin, and finer nodulose threads. In addition, fine axial scratches cover the entire shell. The varices develop an extensive webbing, this extending from the suture to the midpoint of the siphonal canal: the webbing is most broadly expanded in the region of the siphonal canal and is generally best preserved on the last varix; it is also pleated, the pleats reflecting the; spiral cords, these most strongly developed on the dorsal surface of the webbing.
Shell color is a fleshy purple-brown, with three spiral brown bands, these most prominent on the varices. The apertural margin is white; the interior of the aperture is pale violet.

Shell up to 105 mm in length with small, conical protoconch of 3.15 whorls and weakly shouldered, broad, convex teleoconch whorls. Length/width ratio 1.8-2.0.
Axial sculpture of last teleoconch whorl consisting of 3 narrow, high, nodose and webbed varices. Other axial sculpture of 2 or 3 weak or moderately strong, high, nodose intervarical ribs with stronger shoulder nodes at crossing of axial ribs with P1 and P2 spiral cords. Spiral sculpture of weak, low or moderately high primary cords, small, narrow secondary cords and few tertiary cords. Spiral sculpture of subsutural ramp of last whorl with adis, IP followed by P1, s1, P2, s2, P3, t, s3, t, P4, s4, P5, P6, s6, ADP, MP, ABP on convex part of shell and siphonal canal. Primary cords and s3 higher and broader on axial varices. P6 broadest cord, occasionally with P1 and P5. P2, P3, P4, and s3 of same strength; s6 weakly narrower. ADP, MP, and ABP broad, approximately of same strength. Other secondary and tertiary cords low and narrow. Aperture broadly ovate. Columellar lip smooth, with strong partietal tooth adapically, erect abapically, adherent on small portion adapically. Outer lip smooth with several, split, low elongate denticles within. ID denticles strongest. Siphonal canal monderateiy long, broad, ventrally narrowly open, weakly dorsally bent, 39-43% of total shell length, with abapically bent, webbed, ADP, MP, and ABP spines. Light tan, orange or light brown with darker blotches on axial varices and spiral cords. Siphonal canal occasionally lighter coloured ventrally.
