According to Vaught Enida is a subgenus of Gibbula.
We feel uncomfortable with this taxonomic position. The shells are quite variable, but easily recognized because of the particular umbilicus and the color. In some populations with thin shells, the material of which Enida japonica resembles that found in Calliostoma species. However, the flat shape, the wide umbilicus and peculiar sculpture all indicate that it is close to Calliotropis. Only the color is disturbing, but despite this, we place the genus here until a more suitable place is found. A synonym is Calliostoma expansion Schepman, 1908. described from west and south of Timor, Indonesia. The discovery of specimens in the Philippines means a nice filling of the gap between Japan and Timor. There are no noticeable conchological differences between the Philippine and the Japanese shells. We state large variation in sculpture within the species.
