Description

Shell of moderate size, subcylindrical, fawn, with patches of chocolate below the suture and streaks of chocolate on the whorls and base. Protoconch peglike, deep cholocate, of 4,5 whorls, the nucleus minute, remainder covered with a diagonal lattice of fine intersecting threads. Mature whorls five, rounded, with a slight shoulder, of irregular growth, the median whorls swollen, body whorl short, restricted at the base. Sculpture finely reticulate, strong, close spiral threads, being crossed by rather finer axial threads running obliquely across the whorls, and bending forwards above the periphery to the suture. The fasciole area distinct and slightly concave. Aperture short and wide, outer margin thin and rounded, the sinus wide and shallow adjoining the suture, canal short, broad and open. Inner margin straight anteriorly, angled with the curve of the body whorl, columella narrow and acuminate. Length 15 mm., width 5.7 mm., aperture 6 mm.

Interchangeable taxa

This striking novelty is, as far as is known, unique in its characters and cannot be readily confused, either generically or specifically with any other Australian shell.
