Description

Shell small, strong; cream or yellowish with whorls and base brown banded; acuminately turreted. Whorls about twelve, concentrically sculptured with a prominent granulose keel at the anterior third and one of lesser strength just below the sutures which are deeply impressed. The longitudinal ornament consisting of numerous fine, undulating striae. Interior cream. Aperture rounded; outer lip acute, with a fairly deep sinus centrally situated. Size: 1 inch.

Interchangeable taxa

A sturdy little species, its strongly granulated character immediately separating it from any member of the family in Victoria. Turritella granulifera Tenison Woods, 1875, is a synonym recording its existence in Tasmanian waters.
C. australis diffidens Iredale, 1925; a shell of similar shape but without the characteristic granulations; its type locality is Gabo Island.
