Description

The shell is of moderate size (approximate length 22 mm) and narrowly fusiform. The spire is high and acute, consisting of one and three-fourths nuclear whorls and seven angulate postnuclear whorls. The suture is well-impressed. The body whorl is of moderate size and fusoid. The aperture is ovate for the most part, with the outer margin drawn out above and emptying into the shoulder lamella. The margin of the outer apertural lip is very thin and smooth, as is its inner surface. The columellar lip is essentially adherent, but barely detached anteriorly. The siphonal canal is long, curved, broadly open, and with a well-developed laminate siphonal fasciole. Axial sculpture consists of six laminae or laminate varices, weakly elevated except at the shoulder, where they rise into long, open spinelike projections, at slightly more than a 90° angle to the long axis of the shell. Spiral sculpture is limited to a single rounded, cordlike structure, this forming the shoulder angle. Shell color is entirely pale brown or tan. The Mediterranean, mainly around Italy.
