Protoconch one and one-half whorls, height 1.3 mm, diameter 1 mm, smooth, glistening. Postnatal whorls five; four tubes and four varices on each whorl; tubes subcircular on early whorls, becoming oval and carinate in front on later whorls, sometimes on last whorl narrowly oval (complanate); varices curving forward, carinate, connected with the tubes, but each with a shallow notch on base of tube defined by a feeble angulation. Size 20 X 10-11 mm (excluding tubes). Operculum broadly oval, fitting the continuous peristome, the nucleus apical, the growth lines well marked. Surface dull or chalky-white, except the glistening protoconch.
South Africa (Cape Point to East London).

This Siphonochelus species differs from the other New Caledonian species in many respects. It differs from S. angustus in having a broader and larger shell with a higher and broader protoconch, more angular, strongly shouldered teleoconch whorls with a broader subsutural ramp and broader, much flatter anal tubes.
It is different from S. boucheti in having a more angular shell with a broad subsutural ramp, obviously flatter anal tubes and very narrow, sharp, low axial varices opposed to rounded and high varices in S. boucheti which also has higher and broader axial, intervarical folds near preceding varices.
It also differs significantly from S. japonicus and S. nipponensis, both species not yet recorded from New Caledonia, in having a more angular shell, narrow, sharp varices instead rounded in both other species and also in having a broader subsutural ramp and broader, flat anal tubes.
Siphonochelus cf. S. arcuatus is closer to the South African S. arcuatus because that species also has sharp varices, but the New Caledonian specimen
is still different in having a more strongly shouldered shell with a broader subsutural ramp.
In conclusion, the single examined specimen seems different from any other Siphonochelus species, although close to S. arcuatus. Nevertheless, as we only have one dead collected specimen, it seems preferable to wait for any additional sample before making a final decision on this shell.
