Description

Emozamia Iredale, 1929: 185. Type species (by original designation): Murex licinus Hedley & Petterd, 1906; Recent, southern Australia and northern New Zealand.
This genus includes species with shells of medium size (ca 10-20 mm), without spines, with lamellose sigmoid varices. The genus includes only two recognised species, one in the Indo-West Pacific, Emozamia licina, the other in the Atlantic and Mediterranean, E. richardi (P. Fischer, 1882). Both are known to live in association with deep water scleractinian corals (Taviani et al. in press).
