Description

The shell is of moderate size (maximum length 45 mm) and fusiform. The spire is low to moderately high, consisting of four or five postnuclear whorls and a protoconch of undetermined nature. The suture is entirely obscured and is situated in a deep furrow. The body whorl is large and fusoid. The aperture is small and ovate, with an almost imperceptible anal sulcus. The outer apertural lip is erect and marginally serrate, in some instances with a moderately long ceratus anteriorly. The columellar lip is entirely adherent, except at its anterior end, where it is briefly detached. The siphonal canal is moderate in length, fused, and more or less bent to the right.
The body whorl bears three bladelike varices, each much broader at its base than at its free margin, and thickest posteriorly, where it is appressed to the preceding whorl almost at its shoulder margin; anteriorly the varices extend to the midpoint of the siphonal canal. Intervarical axial sculpture consists of a single, massive knob, filling almost the entire intervarical space. Spiral sculpture consists of seven weak major cords and numerous fine intercalary threads. The leading edge of each varix is richly fimbriate.
Shell color is white or off-white, with chestnut-brown markings. The aperture is porcelaneous white to pale yellow.
