As Murex tunghaiensis Shikama & Oishi, 1977:
Shell medium sized, fusiform, turrated with 8 volutions of teleoconch. Protoconch very small and suture deep. Varix distinct, rugose thick and with a short shoulder spine; scalloped margin fine and delicate. Axial ribs between varices of last whorl 5-6 in number, relatively weak and not angulated. Numerous violetish brown radial striations run parallel to each other on whorl. Two—three spines on long siphonal tube relatibely short. Aperture oval and parietal wall white and eminent. Distal portion of siphonal tube carries 3 brown blotches.
Holotype: Shell 81.7mm high and 31.2mm wide, stored in the writer's collection, presented by OISHI. Locality: East China sea.
Remarks: Species kiiensis KIRN and elensis DALL are liked in general outline but are distinct by less axial ribs and coarser lamination of scalloped margin of varix. M. rectirostris SOWERBY and M. gallinage SOWERBY are far distant from this species by stouter construction of shell.
