Shell to 50 mm. Inequilateral, beaks in the anterior third. Outline subrectangular lateral margins rounded; posterior area only slightly expanded; posterior carina low, rounded; ventral margin straight; byssus gape very narrow. Dorsal area very narrow. Ligament posterior to beaks. Sculpture subcancellate, radial riblets just dominating. Hinge teeth in two series; anterior set short, teeth large often compacted; posterior teeth numerous, regular. Colour a rich chestnut brown with 2 distinctive white radial streaks over the umbos. Habitat: Attached to rocks in sheltered areas.

Barbatia fusca (Bruguière, 1792) Shell medium in size, rather flat, ovate, 29.2 mm in height, 49.6 mm in length and 22.1 mm in breadth; sides rounded, anterior short, posterior rather elongated, ventral margin with a slight gape; umbonal part slightly convex, beak placed in front of dorsal margin, ligamental area very narrow, deeply bent inward; surface with numerous radial riblets crossed by concentric lines, forming granular on riblets; reddish-brown, with two white streaks at the umbonal part, and covered with a brown bristly epidermis. Distribution: Fujian, Guangdong, Hainan and Guangxi Provinces of China; Indo-Western Pacific region. Ecology: Found attached to rocks by byssus from the intertidal zone to shallow waters.
