Description

Anadara uropigimelana (Bory de St. Vincent, 1824)
12-60 mm. -> Smooth-feeling surface, multiple fine striae running down the anterior ribs. Narrow interstices, weak densely spaced, extremely fine concentric striae across ribs. (36 mm)
Distribution: Locally common in the northern Gulf of Aqaba and muddy areas just north of Hurghada and in the far south. Not found in the Gulf of Suez. Notes: Sometimes the most central of the striae is deeper than the others, which can cause confusion with A. antiquata. A. uropigimelana is always smoother, and never has strong nodulose cross bars on and between the ribs.
Rusmore-Villaume, M.L., 2008. Seashells of the Egyptian Red Sea
Shell inflated, solid, obliquely oblong, 55.1 mm in height, 70.1 mm in length and 47.9 mm in breadth; anterior side rounded and posterior elongate, obliquely truncated, sides angulated at the upper part; area of ligament broad and short; surface covered with a peculiarly soft, short, velvety epidermis, and with about 32 flat and broad, very close-set radial ribs, interspaces between ribs very narrow.
Distribution: Hainan Province of China; Tropical Indo-Western Pacific region.
Ecology: Found in shallow waters of subtidal zone, uncommon in China.
