Habitat: it lives in a coralligenous habitat in the circalittoral zone.
Distribution: it can be found in a large part of the Mediterranean, but never common.
Imaged shells: all of them were collected at Palinuro (Campania Italy), at 40 m depth.
Notes: this species main characteristics are the spines bent towards apex and mouth rounded in form. There are 8-9 axial ribs crossed by spiral cords that, once they cross, make some spines with a variable length and consistency. Lip denticulated internally, siphonal canal short. One turn and half of protoconch globose which has a spiral sculpture made by little cords flattened, differently spaced and frequently interrupted. This species docs not change very much its form and sculpture during its several growth stages. It can be seldom confused with other Muricidae. From dirty white to dark brown in colour.
Settepassi (1977) set up some varieties in form such as: muticus, robustus, elongatus, horridus, all of them of no taxonomic value. The adult specimens average measures are around 8 mm in height.
