The species is not very big for the genus: between 4.9 and 12.8 mm in length, solid and thick when fully grown. The apex is almost in the center of the shell when seen from above, but slightly closer to the backside than to the frontside. The apex bent backwards. Seen from aside, this species is not very high shaped: from low, to flat. The frontside is convex,
the backside has a flat profile. A big number of radiating ribs starts from the apex towards the periphery. These number 59 in the holotype. The ribs, especially on the backside of the shell, tend to alternate a very strong rib with a weaker one. There is also a big number of concentric ribs crossing these radiating rib. They number about 25 such ribs on the backside of the shell, but the count is difficult as they tend to fuse towards the periphery in the holotype. Between the ribs, deep pits are formed. At the crosspoints knobs are formed, sometimes in the shape of scales. The slit is broad and almost 1/5 of the total shell length. Behind the slit a long selenizone continues up to the apex, but disappears before reaching it. The interior is glossy, with a thick brown callus in the center. This callus leaves place for the selenizone: it has a big indentation in this area. The periphery inside is deeply crenulate all over. The overall color is white to pale cream-white. On the exterior, the brown callus from the inside shines through, leaving in general a vague pattern of one dark fleck near the apex on the backside, and two dark flecks a little below the apex on the frontside: one on each side of the selenizone. Most often these flecks have a brown-purplish shine. We refer to the photos for a general understanding of shapes, sculptures and coloration.

The following species have a dominant yellow coloration and are usually bigger, so they can easily be distinguished: E. aurea n. sp., E. clypeus A. Adams, 1852, E. dharmai n. sp.
