Typhisopsis Jousseaume, 1880

kingdom Animalia - animals »  phylum Mollusca - mollusks »  class Gastropoda - gastropods »  order Neogastropoda »  family Muricidae - Muricids

Description

The shell is large for the Typhinae and coarsely biconic. The body whorl bears four heavy, rounded, ropelike varices. Each anal siphonal tube is close to the preceding varix (actually ap-pressed to it) and is buttressed by a partition (a posterior lamina of the former outer apertural lip). The partition bridges the shoulder region and is appressed to a varix on the preceding whorl. The upper angle of the varical flange forms a spine that, on all but the last varix, is compressed and tapers rapidly to a sharp, incurved point.
