Shell small in size for the genus, outline of the shell stepped, quite solid, elongate. The protoconch is small, elevated, but slightly eroded. Shell with not so deep suture, all the whorls neatly shouldered. On top of the shoulder a strong microscopic sculpture of axial ribs that are stronger towards the suture and they become obsolete towards the shoulder. In the center of the shoulder one weak spiral rib, but secondary to the axial ribs. Below the shoulder, on the upper part of the whorls 3 strong spiral ribs with microscopic spiral ribs between in and faint axials. On the base 8 rounded spiral ribs connected with small axials. No umbilical keel, the base goes over in a deep umbilicus. Aperture round, simple, columella simple, not reflected, small parietal callus. Most specimens are completely white, but one has a white background with olive flecks near the suture and on the periphery. The 14 m deep specimen is pink in color.

Vanitrochus geertsi n. sp. is close in shape to
* Zetela dedonderorum n. sp. but can be distinguished at once by the presence of an umbilical keel, the different sculpture and the deep sutural channel.
* Vanitrochus tragema (Melvill & Standen, 1896)
This species differs by its much more pronounced shoulder and more swollen body whorl. In V. geertsi, the spiral ribs are much more pronounced and the axial ribs are longer, more spaced and much more visible. The upper whorls in V. geertsi are not so broad, the whole shape of the shell is much more elongate than V. tragema, which is almost round.
