Boucheticonus Tucker & Tenorio, 2013

kingdom Animalia - animals »  phylum Mollusca - mollusks »  class Gastropoda - gastropods »  order Neogastropoda »  family Conidae »  genus Conasprella

Description

• Type species: Boucheticonus alisi (Moolenbeek, Rockel & Richard, 1995).
• Synonyms: none.
• Shell characters: the shells are of small to moderately small size. The spire is moderately low with concave outline and cords on the sutural ramps. The protoconch is multispiral. The anal notch is shallow. The shape of the last whorl is conical or broadly conical. The shell texture is glossy. The sculpture is limited to cords or ribs on the posterior third of the last whorl.
• Radular characters: the tooth is very with the anterior section being four times as long as the posterior one. There is one small barb and one blade. The basal spur is present.
• Biogeography: tropical western Pacific.
• Ecology: the animals live in circalittoral and bathyal environments (50-525 m).
• Diet: unknown but presumably vermivorous although the radular tooth is unusual for this diet.
• Comments: molecular phylogenies show that this genus is distinct from Conasprella. The radular
teeth of B. alisi are strikingly different from those of Conasprella and thus justify the separation
of both genera.
