Description

Shell size small for the genus. Shells have a conical shape with flat, straight whorls. Top of the protoconch white, then pink. The second whorl of the protoconch has a spiral sculpture. Later whorls have a sculpture of 5 regular secondary spiral ribs with one double primary rib on the keel, just above the suture. The secondary spiral ribs are crossed by slightly weaker axial ribs and form small knobs where they cross, giving the shell a beaded aspect. The base is flat to slightly convex and there is a small, narrow, white umbilicus. The base is covered with 8 to 9 spiral ribs that are widely spaced. On the interspaces there are tiny, hardly visibly axial striae. General color is the one of a clear red wine. The pattern consists of irregularly set green and/or white flecks, but occasionally shells can be overall red. On the base there is a pattern of white flecks set on the spiral lines.

Interchangeable taxa

We compare this species with the following Cantharidus and Jujubinus from the Indo-Pacific region:
* Jujubinus guphili n. sp.
Is larger, has a more pronounced sculpture with well visible and pronounced beads on the spiral ribs. Its color is much paler and the base more convex.
* Cantharidus infuscatus (Gould, 1861)
From Japan, the shell is about double in size of C. geographicus n. sp. The shape is broader, the sculpture different: the oblique striae, seen between the spiral ribs of C. infuscatus are absent in C. geographicus n. sp. The coloration of C infuscatus is also different: in general a mixture of cream and dark brown or black, while in all the C. geographicus n. sp. studied the base color is red with green flecks. The base C. infuscatus is more convex than in C. geographicus n. sp. and the peripheral ribs are not so pronounced.
* Cantharidus suarezensis (Fischer, 1878)
From South and East Africa has a much finer sculpture and lacks the peripheral ribs.
* Cantharidus urbanus (Gould, 1861)
Have clearly convex whorls while they are straight in C. geographicus n. sp. The sculpture of raised spiral ribs is also different: C. urbanus has incised spiral ridges.
* There is a close resemblance to the European Jujubinus exasperatus (Pennant, 1777), from which it differs by the weaker and double peripheral ribs.
