Shell to 20.0 mm in length, fusiform-elongate but slightly cylindrical, sutures narrowly canaliculate, teleoconch of 6.2-7.2 convex whorls, protoconch of 4 smooth, brown embryonic whorls. Post-embryonic whorls with a rough sculpture consisting of 2 elevated spiral cords and broad, low axial folds, penultimate whorl with 17-19 axial folds and 4 spiral cords, body whorl with 24-27 axial folds and 17-19 spiral cords; an intermediate cord is usually present between the main spiral cords but may be absent in places, especially on the spire whorls, and the axial folds become narrower and more crowded on the back of the outer lip; when viewed from the spire, whorls appear geometrically closely scalloped. Aperture equal in height or slightly longer than the spire, narrow and smooth within, columella narrowly calloused basally and with 5 oblique folds. White in color, primary spiral cords reddish-brown, protoconch brown.

Whorl white with brown primary-spiral ridges which 4 on penultimate whorl. One -white secondary spiral ridge visible between primary ridges. There are running distinct white axial threads, hence whorl surface becoming cancellated. Five columella folds distinct and white. Aperture narrow.
Types: Two shells stored in the writer's collection, presented by HAYASHI. Larger shell 19.6 mm high and 6.4 mm wide.

The species resembles D. filaris (Linnaeus) in coloring and also D. carnicolor (Reeve), but is easily recognized by its narrowly channeled sutures and rough, nodose sculpture, particularly on the early whorls. Although described as having 2 embryonic whorls, the protoconch has just over 4 embryonic whorls.
