This tribus includes the elongate conical shells which are not or very minutely umbilicate, with slightly convex whorls, columella smooth or rarely obsoletely crenulate, and a more or less developed basal tooth. The typical genus is Cantharidus of which the type species is Trochus iris Gmelin — Trochus opalus Martyn from New Zealand, a larger shell than any Australian species with the basal columella tooth weakly developed.
