As Maoritomella vallata:
Maoritomella vallata is characterized by 1) claviform, high-spired, robust shell up to 13 mm in height, 2) protoconch paucispiral of 1.5 whorls, 3) teleoconch whorls angular, with subsutural cord followed by slightly concave shoulder slope and median periphery, 4) body whorl less than one half the total height, rather rapidly tapering at the base, 5) outer lip with I submedian inner liration, 6) anal sinus moderately deep, narrowly U-shaped, occupying the abapical half of the shoulder sulcus, 7) sculpture of 1 flat-topped, rather strong, peripheral spiral cord, a weaker one abapical to it and 2 (occasionally one) spiral threads on the shoulder slope; 12-14 spirals occur on body whorl; the spirals are crossed by moderately dense collabral threads. Pleurotoma nivea Philippi, 1851, exhibits an overall similarity but has a distinctly more slender shell.
DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. The species is still poorly known and is presumed to be a shallow sublittoral element uncommonly occurring in the Western Pacific. In the type-locality (vicinity of Hong Kong), it was recovered from shelly mud at a depth of about 20 m (JOHNSON, 1964). FOSSIL RECORDS. Holocene of Thailand.
