Range: East Africa (excluding the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf area) to the Bay of Bengal.
Size: Adults 250 to almost 400 mm.
Description: Shell very solid and heavy. Spire short in dorsal view and very blunt, bearing large nodules on the shoulders. Body whorl spirally ribbed. Outer lip thin or thickened with 6 digits. Columella and aperture smooth. Anterior canal relatively short and wide, almost straight. Basic color creamy tan to dark
brown, only lightly mottled. Columella and aperture whitish to pale tan, sometimes with shades of pinkish or purplish.
Remarks: L. truncata truncata is the largest species of the genus Lambis and of all living Strombidae.
