The fusiform-conic shell is russet to chestnut-brown, irregularly maculate with white at the periphery, base and above. Nucleus wanting. The remaining whorls are convex, with axial sculpture of rather low, rounded ribs, which are slightly protractive and rather weak on the last two whorls, vertical and stronger above. On the last whorl the ribs scarcely reach the suture and become obsolete on the base. Spiral sculpture of subequal cords narrower than their intervals, 9 on the penult whorl, 32 on the last, 13 being between suture and periphery. The intervals of the cords are everywhere sharply striate axially. The aperture is white within, outer lip strongly arcuate in the lower half, weakly above. Anal sinus rather deep, its lower margin strongly concave. Siphonal sinus rather shallow.
Lenth 15.5 mm., diam. 6 mm.; 5 ½ whorls remaining.

D. casta Hinds and D. bartschi Dall differ in shape of the aperture, which tapers anteriorly as in the type of Daphnella. The present species belongs to the group of D. panamica, Eudaphne allemani, and others having the aperture wide anteriorly, but it differs from known West Coast species in sculpture. D. crebriplicata Reeve is a Philippine species resembling D. mazatlanica in color and sculpture.
