Popis

Habitat: it prefers either coarse sand bottoms or gravelly bottoms up to more than 100 m depth. Distribution: it is known all over the Mediterranean but never common.
Notes: species of the family Tellinidae being the smallest in sizes. Equivalve, inequilateral. It is recognizable from its similar ones since oval in form, non truncated but roundish on the two margins. Sculpture made by uniform fine concentric lines. Umbo placed in the posterior part, ventral margin not much convex, smooth internally. In the lower margin the incision of the pallial sinus joins the pallial line. Muscle scars quite evident, the anterior one more expanded than the posterior one. Apart from umbo, a little bit more protuberant, premature specimens are not very different in outline from the adults. White, red, brown, orange in colour. Either uniform or with spots or shades too, or with radial zones. Even internal colour pattern is
changeable as much. The adult specimens average measures are around 7-8 mm.
