Caecum floridanum Stimpson, 1851 Florida Caecum
Distribution: Texas, North Carolina to Brazil. Size: 3 to 4 mm.
Description: Color light tan with darker brownish markings on outer edge of shell; shape toothlike or tusklike, arched; sculpture with 15 to 30 strong spiral ridges; last 3 or 4 spiral ridges largest, creating a varix at the apertural opening; mucro recessed, slender, and sharp or spikelike.
Habitat: Found in marine environments at depths from 0 to 60 m (197 ft). In Texas found at the FGB.
Remarks: Positioning of mucro and coloration of living specimens are essential for identification. See Ode (1988b).
