Shell strong, of ten whorls (and several lost by wear), cream colored, clouded and lineate with chestnut. Sculpture: A subsutural series of pointed nodules, a series of more numerous pointed tubercles at the periphery, visible on one or two earlier whorls immediately above the suture, and a third series of smaller tubercles between, developed also on about two whorls of the spire. On the base of the body whorl there is a median series of tubercles divided by a spiral thread, and a basal series of smaller tubercles. The whole surface of the shell is finely grooved spirally, the lines dark. Aperture white, showing dark lines in the throat. Inner lip slightly detached in the middle, having a callous fold near the posterior angle. Siphonal canal narrow, strongly recurved. Length 26.5 mm., diam. 11 mm.
This species has a superficial resemblance to "Cerithium" gemmatum Hinds but the internal fold on the columellar axis of that species is wanting in this one. It is more nearly related to Antillean species, such as C. atratum Born. Corinto, Nicaragua, in about 20 fathoms (Lowe)
