The shell is of moderate size (maximum length 25 mm) and fusiform. The spire is high, consisting of one and one-half nuclear whorls and five shouldered postnuclear whorls. The suture is completely obscured by posterior projections of the subsequent whorl. The body whorl is moderately large and fusoid. The aperture is of moderate size and ovate, with a moderately broad anal sulcus. The outer apertural lip is thickened, nonerect, and weakly notched at broadly spaced intervals; the inner surface of the outer lip bears five strong denticles, a sharply cut groove running between adjacent denticles. The columellar lip is entirely adherent and smooth, except for a low, rounded swelling at its anterior end. The siphonal canal is moderately short and straight, narrowly open, and weakly, dorsally recurved.
The body whorl bears a single true varix at the outer apertural margin. Other axial sculpture consists of nine strong costae extending from the shoulder margin to the tip of the canal. On the shoulder, thin, suberect lamellae correspond in position to the axial costae. Spiral sculpture consists of eight strong cords, five on the body and three on the canal. The spiral cords are produced into low, transversely elongate nodules where they intersect the axial costae. The costae bear suberect lamellae on the canal, reminiscent of those on the shoulder. The depressed, rectangular interspaces formed by the strong sculptural elements impart a strongly reticulate appearance to the shell surface.
Shell color is blue-gray, with gray-white sculptural elements. The aperture is stained a rusty brown.
