Nassaria recurva G. B. Sowerby II, 1859: 86. Type locality: Sri Lanka "Ceylon".
N. recurva was listed as a synonym of N. acuminata (Reeve, 1844) by Cernohorsky, 1981: 21-22.
Our specimens from the Philippines were compared with the lectotype in The Natural History Museum London (BMNH 1973175/1) and found to be identical. The specific status of N. recurva is hereby restored and retracted from synonymy with N. acuminata. N. recurva is characterized by the well convex whorl, the spiral cords which are broad, semi-rectangular in profile, with rounded edges and by the narrow spiral-interspaces. The specimens from the central Philippines are slightly broader in shape.
RANGE
Sri Lanka, the type locality, and the central Philippines.
Known from sandy and muddy bottoms, coral sand and grit.
COMPARISON
N. acuminata is similar in shape but differs in having sharp spiral cords with broader interspaces. At suturalis (A. Adams, 1855) (type locality: Indonesia, Malacca) is similar in shape and size but differs in having a sutural canalieulation and a base ornamented with strong spiral cords. N. suturalis has not yet been recorded from the Philippines. N. sinensis G. B. Sowerby III. 1859 (type locality: "China Seas") is similar in size and shape but differs in having sharper primary spiral cords with some fine secondary spiral cords, a more angulate subsutural shape and a larger aperture. N. sinensis has not yet been recorded from the Philippines.
