As G. libratus:
Shell of medium size (30.0-37.0 mm), elongate, fusiform, light weight, thin, spire long, consisting of about 9 convex whorls. Suture dis¬tinct, slightly wavy. Axial growth lines fine but visible.
Colour white, with an indistinct broad, brownish band on shoulder. Outer side of siphonal canal brown with white tip. Spiral cords reddish-brown; pale on axial ribs, darker in interspaces.
Protoconch pale brown, glossy, smooth, bulbous, consisting of 1,25 whorls, final part with some fine axial riblets, transition to teleoconch abrupt, marked by a varix. Diameter 0.8-0.9 mm.
Spiral cords fine but sharp, strong and forming tiny sharp elongate nodules when crossing axial ribs, but weaker in interspaces. 3 primary spiral cords on first teleoconch whorl. 4 or 5 from second whorl on, the 2 cords at periphery strongest. A fine intercalated secondary spiral thread appears between the primary cords from third teleoconch whorl on. The number of intercalated threads increases to 3 on body whorl.
Axial ribs inconspicuous, weak, close-set, reaching from suture to suture on upper whorls, often rudimentary and irregular on later whorls, occasionally absent on body whorl. 10-13 ribs on upper tclcoconch whorls, 12-15 on antepenultimate, 14-20 on penultimate and (when present) 17-20 on body whorl.
Aperture with siphonal canal shorter than ½ of shell length. Aperture ovate, elongate, pointed above, white. Parietal callus smooth, slightly glossy, extended on parietal wall, adherent. Columellar folds absent. Outer lip thin and simple in juvenile specimens; fully adult shells with a thick, crenulated outer lip, with about 8 internal lirae.
Siphonal canal straight, slightly shorter than aperture length, broad, wide open. Outer side ornamented with weak spiral cords and threads, becoming weaker towards tip. Operculum typical of genus, light brown.
Radula typical of genus. Central tooth tricuspid, relatively large, base slightly broader than top. cusps projecting below base. Lateral teeth curved, with 4 prominent and pointed cusps, two central ones slightly weaker. Inner end with a strong denticle.

Fusus dalli was placed in Surculina (Johnwyattidae) by CERNOHORSKY (1978: 94). Based on radular, protoconch and operculum morphology and the typically granulated sculpture we transfer this species to Granulifusus. G niponicus differs by its larger shell (up to 35-70 mm), a more prominent sculpture (axial as well as spiral), and a longer siphonal canal. G kiranus differs by its larger (up to 40-60 mm), usually less elongate shell with more ventricose whorls, stronger axial ribs, and stronger spiral cords with broader interspaces. G hayashii is most similar to G. dalli, but differs by having a larger size (up to 52 mm), a smaller number of slightly stronger spiral cords, and a longer siphonal canal. G. staminatus, having a brown protoconch in common with G. dalli, differs by its smaller size (up to 21.4 mm), the smaller number of whorls (7,5) the smaller and darker protoconch, the vivid colour, and the smaller number of axial ribs on later whorls.
