Popis

Distinctive features are 1) slender, turreted, acuminate, weakly cyrtoconoid, semitransparent shell up to 19 mm in height, 2) sutures faint, 3) body whorl about one half the total height, base tapering, 4) aperture narrow and very high, outer lip straight, except for a very slight presutural sinuation; parietal lip forming a widely obtuse angle with the thickened columellar lip, 5) outer surface shining, with faint collabral striation and 2 reddish-brown spiral adapical and abapical bands; a third band occurs on the body whorl abapical to the periphery. Eulima acutissima (Sowerby, 1866) appears to be closely related, but is devoid of color bands.
DISTRIBUTION AND HABITAT. The species was hitherto known from East China Sea and Japanese waters. According to HORI in OKUTANI (2000), it occurs intertidally and down to 60 m depth on sand. Eulima species are parasites of brittle stars.
FOSSIL RECORDS. Quaternary of Japan; Holocene of Thailand.
Robba et al, 2003. Holocene and Recent shallow soft-bottom mollusks from the northern Gulf of Thailand area: Scaphopoda, Gastropoda, additions to Bivalvia.
Distribution: Florida, Texas; West Indies. Size: 7 mm
Description: Color translucent light tan, almost white, polished with 2 brown bands on each teleoconch whorl, one just below the suture and the other just above the preceding whorl; shape mildly vertical and slender; sculpture smooth and polished; suture indistinct with exception of colored bands; 2 smooth nuclear whorls, first nuclear whorl semilunar; aperture teardrop shaped; outer lip of aperture relatively straight, tall, and thin. Habitat: Outer Texas beaches from shoreline to a depth of 84 m (275 ft). Rarely found in bays.
Synonym: Strombiformis bifasciatus (d'Orbigny, 1842).
