The shell is moderate in size (maximum length 37 mm) and roughly club-shaped. The spire is high, consisting of five weakly shouldered postnuclear whorls and a protoconch of undetermined nature. The aperture is small and lenticular, with a narrow, deep anal sulcus that is delimited on the left by a weak transverse ridge. The outer apertural lip is barely erect; its inner surface bears six weak pustules, two singles followed by two pairs, all in the body region. The columellar lip is entirely adherent. The siphonal canal is moderately long, open, and straight.
The body whorl bears two weakly expanded, oppositely situated, briefly spinose varices. Intervarical axial sculpture consists of three or four more or less prominent knobs at the shoulder margin. Spiral sculpture consists of five major cords on the body, alternating with minor threads. Five threads are evident on the upper portion of the canal. The major cords end on the varices, where they are developed into short, straight or ventrally hooked spines. Parts of the earlier varices, showing the upper three spines, persist on the spire.
Shell color is mauve to pale purple-brown, with darker-brown intervarical nodes. The spiral cords are the same pale mauve as the ground color and stand out in sharp contrast where they cross the darker-brown intervarical nodes. The thickly callused apertural margin is porcelaneous white.
