The shell is moderately small for the genus (maximum length 25 mm) and broadly fusiform. The spire is high, consisting of five weakly angulate postnuclear whorls and a protoconch of un-determined nature. The suture is completely obscured. The body whorl is large, dorsoventrally flattened, and broadly fusoid. The aperture is small and ovate, with a narrow, shallow anal sulcus. The outer apertural lip is thickened, non-erect, and weakly crenulate at its margin, its inner surface bearing five strong denticles. The columellar lip is entirely adherent and smooth, except for a low node at its anterior end. The siphonal canal is moderate in length, open, slightly bent to the left, and weaklv, dorsally recurved.
The body whorl bears two expanded, opposite varices, these extending from the suture to the midpoint of the canal. Intervarical axial sculpture consists of five moderately strong costae, extending over the entire whorl. Spiral sculpture consists of seven major cords, five on the body, starting at the shoulder margin, and two weaker cords on the canal. Where the cords intersect the intervarical costae, prominent nodules are formed. The cords end at the varical margin as short, sharp, triangular points, those on the canal weaker than those on the body. Numerous fine spiral threads cover the shell surface; where these intersect very numerous fine lamellae, prominent scalelike expansions of the lamellae are formed.
Shell color is dark purple-gray, with white on the varices and the aperture and purple-brown on the crests of the spiral cords. The multitude of almost microscopic lamellae cause the shell to look worn, even in the freshest condition, by muting the color.
