Popis

The shell is large for the genus (maximum length 60 mm) and broadly fusiform. The spire is moderately low, consisting of five shouldered postnuclear whorls and a protoconch of undeter-mined nature. The suture is obscured by the succeeding whorl, but the region surrounding the suture is deeply and broadly excavated. The body whorl is moderately large and fusoid. The aperture is small and subcircular, with no indication of an anal sulcus. The outer apertural lip is more or less erect and marginally, finely dentate, with brief lirae extending from the labial denticles into the aperture. The columellar lip is adherent, entire, and smooth; at its anterior end are an oblique sulcus and a knob. The siphonal canal is moderately long, very narrowly open at the right, and distally recurved.
The body whorl bears six to eight spinose varices. Other axial sculpture is lacking. Primary and secondary spiral cords become most prominent where they intersect the varices and are raised up to form short to moderately long, narrowly open, slender, sharply pointed spines, the first of these at the shoulder margin. Much finer tertiary cords are also present. Five primary, dorsally bent spines alternate with six smaller secondary, ventrally bent ones. Tertiary spinelets are interspersed, apparently randomly, among the spines, and finely squamose threads cover the varical area. The canal bears three or four primary spines, these diminishing in length anteriorly. The intervarical spaces are unusually narrow. The shell is white on the spire and between the varices, and rusty brown on the varices and the spines. The aperture is white.
