The shell is large for the genus (maximum length 30 mm) and obese-fusiform. The spire is moderately high, consisting of two and one-half nuclear whorls and five weakly convex postnuclear whorls. The suture is, for the most part, obscured by the massive varices. The body whorl is obese. The aperture is moderately small and ovate, with an insignificant anal sulcus. The outer apertural lip is barely erect and finely crenulate, the crenulations reflecting the spiral sculpture of the shell; the inner surface of the outer lip is strongly lirate. The columellar lip is adherent above, detached and weakly erect below. The siphonal canal is broad, narrowly open to the right, and distally recurved.
The body whorl bears six or seven large, rounded varices of such breadth that intervarical areas are obliterated. The uppermost portion of each varix, as it crosses the shoulder, is excavated on its receding edge and reaches the next whorl. The areas between varices on the shoulder are depressed and basinlike. Spiral sculpture on the body consists of nine strong, rounded, tightly fim¬briate cords, distributed from the suture to the base of the body. The siphonal canal bears three or four cords. The body sculpture is set off from that of the canal by a narrow gap carrying cither no spiral sculpture or spiral elements of much diminished strength. The body bears from one to three minor, erratically occurring cords.
Shell color is chalky white, at times stained with red-brown on the varices or on the spiral cords. The entire surface of unworn specimens bears a frosting of white intritacalx laid down in the form of growth striae. The aperture is porcelaneous white.
