Species in this genus have strong spiral cords and axial costae are weak or absent. This species has been found off the coast of west Africa at a depth of up to 200m. It reaches a maximum size of about 40mm. E. spirata is tan and mottled with dark brown. The basal disk is also dark brown. There are up to 13-14 whorls with about 6 strong spiral cords and numerous spiral threads per whorl. The tops of the later whorls are flattened, giving the whorls a stepped appearance. The aperture is oval and the columella is slightly reflected.
