Epitonium (Connexiscala) continens (Melvill & Standen, 1903) (Fig. 192) Species in this group can be recognized by the continuous costae running up the shell. This species reaches a maximum size of about 4.5mm and has been found in deep water in the Gulf of Oman. It is a relatively broad with about 4 teleoconch whorls. There are about 10 costae per whorl which expand as they cross the suture. They are thin and erect. The 3-4 protoconch whorls are dark. The aperture is oval. The sutures are closed as is the umbilicus. The shell is white. E. continens can be distinguished from E. connexum by being relatively broadler, with fewer costae per whorl.
