Shell solid, stretched in form, equivalve, inequilateral, umbo almost central, rather prominent. Valves ornamentation made by concentric lines non always defined. The young shells are less stretched but the apex is always protuberant. The average measures reach one centimetre in length. Internal ventral margin smooth. The colour pattern is variable: it can be brown, dark chestnut-coloured or uniform brown-reddish or sometimes with light spots or radial lines. The inside of the valves has the same colour pattern of the outside. Periostracum bright, pale yellow in colour.

Never common in the Mediterranean Sea.. This species was recorded in Sicily (Italy) ( Monterosato, 1884 ), in Algeria (Joly in Monterosato, 1884) and also in the Aegean Sea (Jeffreys in Monterosato, 1884). It was collected (rarely) even in the Tuscan Archipelago (Italy) into deep sediments samples too. More common along the coasts of the Iberian Peninsula. Habitat: It can be found more frequently between 50 and 100 m depth, but in higher depths too.
