Shell small, short, subovate, with a small, acute, or subacute, unicarinate rostrum, situated medially or submedially, and denned below by an emargination or undulation in the postero-ventral margin; postero-dorsal margin usually convex; escutcheon or ligamental area distinctly denned by the carina, but not sunken; chondrophore small but distinct; siphon tubes usually separated.
Distribution: Cosmopolitan.
Type species: Ledella messanensis Verril and Bush 1897. Comitileda Iredale 1924 is apparently a synonym.

Shell minute, ovate, rather thick, inflated; posterior end produced, set off by shallow radial fold. Sculpture commarginal, sometimes with feeble radial striae. Ligament amphidetic, small, in minute resilifer.
Ledella was originally proposed as a new taxon, not expressly as a replacement name for Junonia Seguenza, non Hubner, as some have thought. The syntypes of its original type species, L. messanensis Jeffreys, 1870, ex Sequenza MS, were believed to belong to another genus, so the ICZN designated a new type species, L. bushae, for the genus to preserve the concept that had been accepted by previous workers. Later consideration has, at least tentatively, placed the type specimens of L. messanensis back in Ledella. Moreover, L. bushae proved to be a junior synonym of another species of Ledella. The genus is known from the Eocene. The name is a diminutive of Leda, the wife of Tyndareus; the gender is feminine.
