Philobrya sublaevis is one of the common circumantarctic bivalves, extending around the antarctic continent to the Antarctic Peninsula, the South Shetlands, South Orkneys and South Sandwich Islands, South Georgia and Bouvet Islands. It does not appear to extend to the Magellanic region nor to the Falkland Islands. In the Ross Sea it has been collected in 5-923 in, although it has been recorded from as shallow as 1 m elsewhere.
