Excellichlamys spectabilis (Reeve, 1853) Spectacular Scallop
13-30 mm. —> LV almost flat, ribs alternating in height, occasionally in color too—usually pink and white. RV slightly convex with around eleven evenly raised, rounded, closely spaced ribs. Scales of very thin, very closely packed concentric lamellae. The overall effect is rather neat and tidy. Light cream or white color with a few small dots of pink, red, red-brown, or a combination. Exterior surface feels like fine sandpaper, not rough. (27 mm) Distribution: Uncommon, South Sinai, and from Hurghada to Shalatein. Notes: The only species likely to be initially confused with this is Gloripallium maculosum in which LV is convex, not flat, so there can be no mistake. G. maculosum RV has fewer ribs, and larger, more untidy scales. Its interspaces are wider. The general effect is more robust and coarser.
